Cameras and smart phones are the most popular ones to picture and share the information. Social networks provide and update the information with the unbelievable speed. We can hear, watch, and learn from a primary source, not censored. When the electric power is out, you will still have some battery power to use your mobile gadgets and stay alert. Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Tumbler, blogs and many other websites are at your disposal.

So nobody should ignore the benefits from being present on the internet and talk to your community and circle of fans online. It is especially crucial in case of emergency or extremely important alerts.

In this post we would like to share our impressions of the historic blizzard and, luckily, a relatively peaceful outcome. All captured by handy gadgets and, as you see, shared online. BPO Group USA provides services on creating your website, social media pages, blogs so that you would benefit from developing and promoting your business online building the community around you to share your news and updates with. Your Website is Your Face

What people do nowadays to find out more about you and your business? Correct, they go to your website. Your website is your face and your signature, sometimes literally.

How much information do you have to provide on your website? Depends on your purpose, vision, taste, sense of style, and budget. But smartly designed websites will give the viewers an opportunity to see immediately what they are looking for.

And here comes the leader of today’s launches and the most shared links – the website of Hillary Clinton, the Secretary of State, having resigned from her position recently. Her face, her name, her contacts – that’s what you find on her website. That’s what you want if you need Hillary. That’s what you want to make sure this is she. That’s what you need  if  you have to contact her. And this is what we call “smart approach”. Just. One. Page.

Fake “Likes”, Illegitimate Reviews

Picking a dining spot or a must-see show means nowadays turning on your mac, PC, or mobile device. The submitted and posted online reviews can make or break the business, that is why the amount of fake reviews increases along with  fake “likes”. The U.S. law says that if you are get paid to endorse a product, place, or service, you must disclose it.

The websites collecting and demonstrating consumers’ opinions  are fighting with the fraudulent posts using the mix of techniques and human moderators to separate fraudulent  comments from genuine reviews. Not only consumers want to get the point about the place or product they want to choose – businesses as well want to rely on the true consumer’s opinion in order to improve their level of services or business operations. Such websites as Google+, TripAdvisor, Yelp, and Local do their best to detect fakes.

Here Yelp is standing out: approximately 20% of submitted reviews are never displayed. Besides, Yelp turned to a new weapon: public shaming. Yelp announced that businesses found attempting to buy positive reviews will have their pages branded with a consumer advisory informing readers of their chicanery.

How to spot a fake? In 2011, Cornell University computer-science students developed an algorithm that identified 90% of fake reviews, in part by flagging telltale signs.

Here are the five common signs but some of them still sound unconvincing:

  • A user account with just one review
  • Reviews coming from multiple accounts on one computer
  • Reviews that diverge sharply from the sentiment of others
  • Effusive adjectives (real people seldom gush)
  • Vague terms like “vacation” and “my husband” (real people talk about specifics like the bathroom or price).

But still, weeding out the fraud and handling the abuse is not an exact science. When Google removed hundreds of reviews for three car dealerships in Kansas, Massachusetts, and Colorado from its Google+ Local pages, those dealers filed complaints with the FTC. “We acknowledge in trying to strike balance in removing spam reviews and keeping legitimate reviews, there will be some error”, – a Google spokesperson comments. Also Yelp spokesman, Vince Sollitto, admits that some legitimate reviews may be caught up in the fight with the spam comments: “It’s a continuing cat-and-mouse game that will always be with us.”

New Graph Search: Opportunities and Privacy Issues

introducing new graph search

Well-well-well, we could not just keep silence! Every person engaged in social media relationships is excited about this Graph Search announced by Facebook just yesterday. This is a new tool allowing you to find the information based on the certain types of your requests: “Italian restaurants in New York my friends from Italy like”, “Pictures of Downtown of 1950s”, “The jewelry my girlfriends pick” and so on. You type your request, and the results update automatically. If Facebook can’t find something it outsources your request to Bing.

Graph Search

The possibilities of Graph Search are really promising: recruiters can use it for looking for new hires, individuals can find new friends and dates, and of course this is a new way to follow up and stalk people and businesses you’re interested in. ”I think what you’ve seen today is a different product from anything else that’s out there,” Mark Zuckerberg said. The main point is that you will get not links but answers as a result of your search, comparing to other search tools such as Google, Bing, or Yahoo.

Well, but having this new opportunity in place, we all, of course, are concerned about privacy. The privacy issue becomes more and more disturbing as the amount of information available on the internet increases dramatically. And this information is also available about you, yes!  As Mark Zuckerberg explains, the information previously hidden on your Facebook page will not become public. Only information that is already viewable on your Facebook account will show up in searches — but users may find that their data is more easily searchable now. So it is time for you right now to check and update your privacy settings.

Holidays: Window Merchandising

Every year and every holiday season all stores on the planet try to strike the pedestrians with their outstanding window displays and convert passers-by into their own consumers. The power of right merchandising is in making you want to look closer at the goods and, at the end, purchase them.

Stores also get more public attention and awareness if their windows are featured in different kinds of contests and media. In New York in 2012 DDI Magazine named Bergdorf Goodman as the Platinum Award winner in the annual Winning Windows Manhattan holiday retail window competition. Anthropologie Rockefeller Center took home the second-place Gold Award, and both the Ralph Lauren Women’s and Ralph Lauren Baby stores were honored with the third-place Silver Award.

The criteria to win the contest are the following: the spirit of the season, creativity of the display, and its technical execution.

It is important to note that with the help of its window merchandising a store can also communicate its social position. For example, Anthropologie is an eco-conscious retailer, and it uses recycled paper, bottles and other previously used materials for creating its unforgettable window scenes. This holiday season you can see snow forests and wild animals “inhabiting” the Anthropologie windows, all hand-made of recycled materials. There are mysterious owls, huge polar bears, cute deer, and of course beautiful dresses inviting you to come in and enjoy the whole in-store experience.

All this beautiful stuff is done with the clear commercial purpose: this is a part of sales strategy to attract your attention and make you buy the goods. The right merchandising leads to more attention, increases awareness, makes one get inside the store with curiosity and interest, and finally helps the businessmen increase their profit.

Entrepreneurship: Creative Ideas

“All genius ideas are simple”, – the famous proverb tells us that we should just look around to catch great business ideas and move your company in a right direction. We found such examples at the exhibition “Celebrate! Party Showcase” held in Westchester, NY, in November 2012.

For his first solo art event Alvaro Montagna opted for a private gathering style: instead of having a big crowd of walkers-by, Alvaro focused on selected group of fans and connoisseurs. He has already enjoyed a big crowd attention before – when he was selected among the top winners of the world famous “Art Takes Manhattan” contest, and when his artworks were demonstrated in Times Square. This time he decided to go with the selective approach.

However, the event was not closed for those who are interested in photography or Alvaro Montagna’s vision: one could find the information about the coming event on popular social media websites along with the possibility to RSVP via email. Such event planning strategy helps you keep your party private but without missing your fans or prospective buyers who would like to attend your exhibition and meet the artist in person.

Entrepreneurship: Right Execution of Smart Business Idea

Great ideas are the most valuable goods on the market. Having at least one smart business idea means fifty percent of success in many cases. And here is an example: “Two Tablespoons”.

BPO Group USA about entrepreneurship

Two Tablespoons

New York City is a place with probably the most eateries per person in the world! Literally, you can try here every cuisine of the world. Imagine the competition among those who want to be successful in the restaurant field.

How to make your spot stand out? The right answer can be “Make it hot!”  At one of the city’s holiday markets we came across the pavilion, among all others, which offers you to try something seasonal. Traditionally, you would expect a trivial cup of coffee… but this is not the case with “Two Tablespoons”: here you get a cup of hot borsht!

Smart business idea

A cup of hot Borsht

You can also have Lentil Soup, Quinoa Salad, and herbal tea. The design of the booth is efficiently sending you the message about healthy home made meals commonly and fairly called “comfort food”.

Why is it a success? Branding is important as usually. There are several aspects which this small team of cooks=businessmen have successfully implemented:

1. The concept is interesting: this is like a coffee shop but with a twist!
2. The message is clear: the menu consists of just 4-5 items of healthy food
3. The design of the booth corresponds with the purpose: the chalked menu on the black board sends you the signal about something natural, organic and simple even if it would not say “vegan”
4. The food is delicious and exactly what you need on chilly winter days!

With this example of tasty & tasteful branding of the attractive business idea we would like to say that the great idea is a lot, and its smart execution is another 50% of success.Good luck, “Two Tablespoons”, and happy holidays!
